I have always said that rainy days are my favorite and it is 100% true. Growing up, I hated rain because it meant summer camp was canceled for the day, and I was stuck inside. Now, goodness do I enjoy the rain. Now rain means I get to stay in bed, watch movies, and avoid responsibility. It’s glorious! Next time you’re trying to think of something to do on a rainy day, for those of you who insist on doing something other than eating and sleeping (so strange), here is a list of rainy day activities that will guarantee an awesome day inside:
1. Movie Day
Go to your nearest Red Box and get about a dozen scary movies or rom coms, whatever your preference, and hit up your local Dollar Tree. After you have purchased a few bags of candy, maybe a sleeve of cookies, or a bag of chips, you’ll be all set for a day of snuggling. The best part? Red Box is amazingly inexpensive, and your total bill for snacks will come to under $10! I’d say that’s a pretty successful day.
I know this sounds wildly unappealing, but honestly, when else are you going to do it? Turn on some awesome music and get to that deep cleaning you keep putting off. Do your laundry, mop the floors, vacuum the stairs. Without the temptation of catching some rays out by the pool, you’re far more likely to be productive.
3. Computer Biz
Again, it may sound unappealing, but the fact of the matter is that you and I both know you are subscribed to far too many websites that you probably signed up for because it made you and you thought you were getting a good deal on that one dress that one time last year. Take this time to hunker down into your bed and cleanse your inbox. You’ll be happy you did once you stop receiving thousands of emails on a daily basis!
That’s right. There are some great “do at home” videos for yogis online, and with the rain adding to the calming effect, you’re destined for a relaxing and invigorating workout. Use an HDMI cord to hook up your computer to your TV and clear a space in your living room. This is a perfect activity to coincide with your cleaning because you can do this while your laundry is in!
Every now and then, I like to bake some cookies or try out a fun recipe that I found on Pinterest, but I rarely have the time. Rainy days are ideal for exploring your “Recipe” board on Pinterest! Pick a few recipes, swing by your local grocery store, and have at it! By the end of the day, your house / apartment will smell incredible, and you’ll have an array of tasty treats to either wrap up and give to your friends, or just enjoy yourself (hell, that’s what I’d do.)
6. Spa Day
I know it sounds juvenile, but I LOVE a good spa day at home. My poor boyfriend has to deal with my unshaved legs on a far too regular basis because I am just too lazy to handle those things. On rainy days, I can spend as long as I like deep conditioning my hair, shaving, exfoliating, trying out my new “do it yourself” face mask, or painting my toenails. No matter what it is, I end up feeling amazing, and my boyfriend is pumped to discover that I am in fact still a girl.
7. Game Day
I thoroughly enjoy a good game of Taboo, or even the occasional game of Life. Invite some friends over, make some drinks (virgin or otherwise), and get ready for some rowdy few hours. If you haven’t tried the game Cards Against Humanity, now would be the perfect time to do so. If you’re not into board games, try finding a fun trivia show on TV or a word search site online. I have an obsession with the Dollar Tree, so I often make stops there to get word search books that will keep me occupied for hours on end.
Remember when we had all that time to read as kids? Summer reading lists were daunting, but once we got into a good book, good luck getting us to put it down. I remember locking myself up in a room at our lake house during the summers to devour books as quickly as I could. Now’s your chance to relive that unbelievably therapeutic experience! Go online to the NYT Best Sellers list and take your pick. Go to your local library and stock up! You’ll undoubtedly enjoy yourself.
Today is a rainy day here in NC, and I have just dropped my dog off to get groomed and am about to settle into a day of much needed cleaning, so I will leave this list to those of you who are also experiencing a gloomy Saturday. Let me know what your favorite rainy day activities are in the comments below!!
