Coming from a Hispanic background has taught me many things in my twenty-something years of life. The most importantly being: Never forget where you came from and never forget what you stand for. Where you come from made you who you are today, and what you stand for is everything you are today.
Growing up I was taught that hard work and dedication were the only ways to get what you wanted in your lifetime, and that things would not be handed to you on a silver platter. I was taught at an early age to communicate in two languages, English and Spanish. As a child I thought that everyone else may have been taught the same way, but to my surprise everyone was different. We live in a world full of many different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. You must embrace your own cultural background and not discriminate or lessen others because of theirs. You must never forget to love who you are, never be ashamed of where you came from, and take a stand for whatever it is you are passionate for.
