We first met Shinjini on Twitter, where her powerhouse status was immediately obvious. Talking to her makes you feel ready to conquer the world – she has that perfect infusion of enthusiasm, brilliance, motivation and passion that takes your breath away if you aren’t careful. Her career is just as impressive as she is and the best part? She’s completely willing to share her dreams and empower you to chase yours! Can you tell we have a girl crush?
1. Tell us about your career path! You have gone from technology analyst, to being a keynote speaker, contributor to multiple publications and the Founder and CEO of your own media company – how did you get to where you are today?
Infinite strategy, a very detailed vision, and unlimited mental strength! It takes a great deal of effort to do something that has never been done before, so I have relied exclusively on my own grit and mental strength in times of great uncertainty! After graduating from Georgia Tech, I tried to be normal for the first couple of years, I really did, but it did not take me a long time to figure out that I have zero desire to be normal, and in fact, had to tune into the burning ambition that had been within me for the longest time to write one of the greatest stories ever written. So, I mapped out a strategy, but as destiny would have it, I was actually discovered on Twitter and recommended to sign with media representation, and a bunch of ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, Sirius XM, Forbes, Inc., Teen Vogue, and Business Insider interviews later, here we are almost two years into my life changing media journey. Please focus on finding the intersection of your passions, talents, deepest desires, and ultimate purpose to make the impact of your dreams!
2. We know that you are passionate about women’s empowerment and gender equality, tell us how this plays into your life both in your personal time and at work.
I strongly believe that when women are physically, emotionally, financially, intellectually, and mentally empowered, they are in positions to empower others and change the world. When we empower women, we empower the world to achieve the greatest feats. It is absolutely critical that we continue to empower women to own their ambitions to write some of the greatest stories ever written, because ambition is sexy, and unapologetic ambition should always be the goal. My brand is ‘The Go-Getter Girl!’ and I am a true embodiment of my brand, because I have lived as a dreamer, and waited for things to happen to me, but that didn’t work out so well, so I became a go-getter and my life has changed. I want millions of women to experience the change that I have experienced, so I have made it my mission to empower women, especially, to become go-getters, fun, fearless, passionate females who are on track to writing some of the greatest stories ever written. The future is FEMALE BABEZ!
3. You have successfully grown a very large and very engaged social media following – any tips for twenty-somethings who are looking to build their online presence?
Identify a unique brand voice that is relatable, authentic, empowering, and distinguishable in a super crowded marketplace. Figure out what your unique selling points are as in what makes you unique and memorable? Then, classify those strengths into attributes that you can convey online, because there is a big difference between online and offline content and we want to make sure that our offline personalities are being properly conveyed online. Second, praise others in your community, so for instance, if you are keen to connect with other millennial influencers, the first thing you should do is follow other millennial influencers on social media and praise their work as a fan before trying to become their friend. It shows great humility and respect on your part that you praise others so freely, and they will want to help you!
4. Your tagline is the “go-getter girl,” tell us what that means to you!
‘The Go-Getter Girl!’ means the world to me and more. This tagline has truly revolutionized my life by re-igniting my fire and enabling me to dive headfirst into achieving each of my goals with excitement, joy, and ultimately, unapologetic ambition. A go-getter girl is fun, fabulous, fiercely intelligent, and writes her own story because she drives her own destiny. She is not waiting around for others to give her opportunities or for the world to knock on her doorstep inviting her to get started on working towards her mission. She is the first one on the frontlines, fighting, and actively creating her own future, which is an extremely attractive quality in the world.
5. What are two things we couldn’t find out about you online?
Haha this is literally the best question ever! The first is that I am OBSESSED with Bollywood and Latin Reggaetón music, haha crazy combination I know, but I am a dancer, and the SICKKK beats instantly draw me to the dance floor, and the second, I am a huge foodie! I LOVE foods from all parts of the world, specifically Chinese, Thai, Italian, Malaysian, and Persian!
6. What advice do you have for women entrepreneurs who are balancing a day job and a passion project?
Devote a dedicated amount of time towards your passion project each day and think of a feasible exit strategy, because you cannot continue straddling two worlds forever, and at some point, you will have to make a decision of what to pursue full-time and what to drop. Allocate your time sensibly towards each activity! Create a viable financial projection plan for how much you will charge for each product or service, and consciously determine when you will choose to pursue your side hustle as a main hustle in your long-term career. This helped me greatly, because I felt like I was actually working towards something!
7. What is your favorite thing about living in San Francisco?
I AM MADLY OBSESSED WITH THIS CITY! The beautiful interplay of media, business, technology, and entrepreneurship is everything to me, and I am literally never leaving. My favorite part of San Francisco is the gorgeous old-world architecture that is present in a majority of the city’s buildings, a relic of the city’s history as one of the most premier port cities in the world.
8. What can we find you doing on a Friday night and a Saturday morning?
Haha since I am building my business now, weekends are still a lot of work, so a mixture of work and play e.g. dinner (great food is always welcome), movie, a show, or anything in between on Friday night, and Saturday morning, ideally would be Crossfit for an hour (YASSSSSSSS WERKING out), and shopping in all of the high fashion stores in the city! I am a high end fashionista and LOVE my Jimmy Choos, Tory Burch totes, Neiman Marcus earrings, and Bebe dresses – all about that high fashion life!
9. What word encompasses the twenty-something decade?
Empowered. I truly feel so empowered now that I am nearing my mid-twenties, because I know myself, I love myself, and I am SO excited about the future! Everyone in their twenties should fall in love with themselves and be empowered!
10. Did we forget something important? Tell!
Never forget to always laugh, smile, love, empower, and celebrate! Each day is a gift! ❤❤
