Meet Miranda, a tenacious and creative entrepreneur who created Flash Tattoos feeding off of the fun she had in her twenties. If there is one thing we know it is that the twenty something years are good for finding yourself, having fun while doing it, and looking fabulous. If you haven’t seen Flash Tattoos you need to look immediately, they are the perfect accessory for not only specialty occasions like beach vacations, music festivals and bachelorette parties – they are an everyday addition to an outfit, and one that stands out in a crowd – can you tell we are obsessed with both Miranda and Flash Tattoos? Nailed it.

What was the most valuable lesson you learned when building your business and brand?
Surrounding yourself with supportive people is critical – almost all of our success has been through word of mouth, so I would say that creating and nurturing a fan base that is excited about what you are doing is a key element to creating a successful brand.
What is the story behind the start of Flash Tattoo’s?
I am a no fuss kinda girl and traditional jewelry has always seems to just get in the way… and lost. With Flash Tattoos, “I wanted to put a fun spin on couture jewelry, to create a captivating ‘line’ that was not only beautiful but also fun and affordable.”

What advice do you have for twenty-something’s starting a business?
Owning your own business is a lot of work – it’s really a 24/7 job. It is very stressful, but full of so much joy at the same time. I would say that working for a small start-up prior to starting your own business is a great way to see if that’s the road you really want to go down. If you do, then having a mentor who’s career you admire is probably one of the most invaluable resources you can have.
What word defines your twenty-something experience?
In my twenties, my life was focused on having FUN! I never took myself/life too seriously and apply that same attitude towards Flash!
How has your style changed since the beginning of your twenties?
I think its evolved, not necessarily changed. Being in a creative field, there is definitely a more relaxed work environment, so stuffy pantsuits weren’t ever something I was forced to wear…thank goodness! I have always been into comfortable and casual pieces that are designed really well, like a great pair of skinny jeans in a goes-with-everything dark wash, easy silk tanks, and a great tailored jacket.

What was something that blindsided you when starting your business?
I would have to say people blatantly copying our product! Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but it’s just heartbreaking to see all the effort and thought we put into creating and designing the line getting ripped off. We’re lucky to have such amazing and loyal customers who really appreciate everything we do to create the best quality and most original tattoos we possibly can!
How do you spend your nights off?
My husband and I love to try out new restaurants around town, so dining out is probably one of our favorite ways to spend our time together. We also like to snuggle up with our cat and watch a movie to decompress on extra busy days.
What are your tips for maintaining a work/life balance?
Work hard and efficiently during the day, and congratulate yourself on all you accomplished that day when it’s time to go home and unplug. Let yourself rest and recharge so you will be ready for action in the morning!
What do you wish you would have been told when you started Flash Tattoos?
Everyone was very supportive when I told them about my idea to start Flash Tattoos, so I can’t really say that there were many naysayers. Just follow your dreams, and everything turns out ok in the end. If it’s not ok, it’s not the end!
What is your favorite outfit to pair with flash tattoos?
That really depends on what collection I feel like wearing that day! If I am going for a more classic look, I love pairing tattoos from the Josephine or Lena collection with a silk button-up top and jeans. If I’m feeling more boho, I’ll wear Child of Wild or Zahra with a lace top and printed wide-leg pants.
