We will be the first to admit that we have a SERIOUS sweet and salty tooth over here- which forces us to keep our eyes peeled for the perfect treat. Once we found Fatty Sundays (What’s in a name? Everything) it was love at first bite. Created and run by a pair of pretzel loving treat connoisseurs, Ali & Lauren, these chocolate dipped pretzels (not to mention the toppings) are taking sweet and salty to the next level. A family business, a decadent treat and some powerful girlbosses- does it get any better? We don’t think so!
We’re pretzel obsessed. There’s nothing better than a crunchy, salty pretzel rod that is doused in sweet chocolate and toppings! Also, our Mom always used to make us the sprinkle chocolate covered pretzels — those pretzels that we enjoyed as kids were the main inspiration behind Fatty Sundays. She is an amazing baker and her chocolate covered pretzels and brownies (and coffee cake and banana chocolate chip muffins…. !) were some of our favorites. Nothing beats the sweet and salty flavor of a chocolate covered pretzel.
Why Fatty Sundays – tell us about the inspiration behind the name.
We grew up always enjoying lots of Moms sweets and desserts. But we also grew up eating our veggies. Our Mom used to say “everything in moderation!” We are true chocoholics and sugar lovers though, so on Sundays when my sister and I used to hang out, kick back and treat ourselves to anything and everything, we dubbed the day “Fatty Sunday.” Everyone loves a good Fatty Sundays!
What is your favorite flavor?
Ali – PB&J
Lauren – Peppermint
What is one flavor you thought would be fantastic, but didn’t work out so well?
Berry Granola – this pretzel was dipped in creamy raspberry flavored white chocolate and evenly coated with hearty, crunchy mixed berry granola. It was the perfect combination of sweet, salty and tart flavor. We loved it, and it was one of our original flavors, but most were skeptical about trying it! We ended up quickly discontinuing the flavor based on it’s popularity (lack of!), but we still miss it to this day.
How do you continue to come up with new combinations?
We are always brainstorming new flavor ideas as a family and looking around for inspiration in unexpected places. We also like to ask our friends, fans and customers what flavors they’d like to see in the future.
What has your greatest success been so far?
That’s a tough question… sometimes we think making it through each day is our greatest success! I think our greatest success is how we managed to take an idea and vision and turn it into reality in 3 years time. We started off selling pretzels to anyone that would try one and now we’re shipping to all 50 states!
It is a family-run business; how have your relationships changed?
We started as sisters and are still sisters! Our relationship really hasn’t changed drastically. The biggest change is that we see each other every. single. day…. ! 🙂
What is something we don’t know about you that we wouldn’t find online?
We have an older sister, there’s 3 of us total. And oddly enough, each of our birthdays are exactly 15 days apart! We call it birthday season in our family once October starts.
What does your perfect movie or girls’ night snack and drink line up look like?
Snacks: pretzels!, Stacy’s pita chips, lots of candy, veggies with hummus. If I’m feeling fancy maybe a cheese and charcuterie platter.
Drinks would be simple: red wine and beer. AND, on a cold night there’s literally nothing better than straight up homemade hot chocolate.
If you had to choose one word to describe your twenties, what would it be and why?
Adventurous! We both had plans and ideas of what our careers were going to look like. Fatty Sundays was born and wiped everything away!
