We all know, love and miss Tim Riggins, #33, and thank the good lord that Netflix has allowed us to relive his football career with the Dillion Panthers for as long as we please. We all wished to be Lyla Garrity at one point or another for we would have done unspeakable things to have bad boy Tim Riggins pining over us. Lastly, we would have all killed to be fortunate enough to don the #33 jersey in the hallways of Dillion High on the day of a big game. Tim Riggins was hands down the most important football player we ever had the chance of knowing, even if he was only a tv character, he was nothing like the running back of your actual high school football team who turned out to be a pretty shitty prom date.
We’ve seen blips of actor, Taylor Kitsch, over the years since Friday Night Lights aired its final season. Kitsch is back in this season of True Detective, airing on HBO. Kitsch returns as the actor with a troubled past and looking sexy AF as he tries to fight his demons. Kitsch plays California Highway Patrol officer, Paul Woodrugh, and there has never been a sexier motorcycle cop.
Now that Tim Riggins is forever monumented as our favorite fantasy, we welcome Kitsch into his new role, but the question remains, will Kitsch ever find a role sexier than #33? Let’s analyze, shall we? :
Tim Riggins drives an old pickup truck, the one that makes all sorts of noise but you would never complain about if it was pulling into your driveway. Paul Woodrugh has only been seen on the back of his police cruiser, his favorite ride.
Winner: “The bike” as Kitsch lovingly calls it on True Detective. We love that old pickup, but we love how freakishly sexy Kitsch looks on the back of that motorcycle.
Was there anything sexier than Tim Riggins running his hands through his unruly locks after taking off his football helmet? Nope. Definitely not. Paul Woodrugh rocks the practical buzzcut that doesn’t give him helmet hair which helps show off his perfect cheekbones.
Winner: We’ll take Tim Riggins’ dirty blonde waves any day, a girl needs something to run her fingers through.
Tim Riggins was a total heartbreaker and playboy, but we forgave him every time he took off his shirt or said “Texas Forever.” His most notable girlfriends were Lyla Garrity and Tyra Colette, who you couldn’t help but love to hate. Paul Woodrugh seems to barely tolerate his girlfriend and even needs Viagra when it’s time to get it on. Yikes, that’s when you know.
Obviously Tim Riggins. I mean we all would love to help Paul Woodrugh fight his demons, but I’m not over the whole I-need-medication-to-feel-attracted-to-you thing. (Plus aren’t Tim and Lyla so freaking cute? I MEAN COME ON.)
Paul Woodrugh is a California Highway Patrol cop who happens to be in the right place at the right time, giving him an opportunity to play with the big dogs and maybe leave the bike behind (heart breaks). Tim Riggins is Dillion’s favorite bad boy who they all know is necessary to the team’s success even if he does take the expression, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” a little too literally.
We’re gonna give this one to Paul Woodrugh as he works to fight crime and his own demons. We do love seeing that #33 tearing it up on the gridiron though….
5. Best Friend:
Jason Street and Tim Riggins are everyone’s #FriendshipGoals. The dynamic duo survives a trip to Mexico, a love triangle and shares a love for Texas, we can’t help but want to bask in the glow of their brotherly love. Paul Woodrugh seems to be a bit of a loner, not even interacting with co-stars Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams too often, he’s too busy brooding about something.
There will never be another pair quite like Riggins and Street, tearing up our hearts on and off of the field. And, “Texas Forever.”
The votes are in:
Tim Riggins- 3
Coach Taylor was right, Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose.
