Life is all about risks, big or small. I have come to understand that life is full of experiences and opportunities. Some that will make a small difference and others that will be completely life changing. By taking a risk you are putting yourself in a position where you can be at loss… but you know that you also stand to gain greatly and will push yourself to prevail.
Looking back on my teenage years I couldn’t wait to turn 18 so that I could move out of my parent’s house and be on my own. Doesn’t every teenager? When the time came I was still living at home because leaving my parent’s house was not a risk I was going to take. Thinking about all the responsibility that comes with moving out was stressful at that age.
However, shortly thereafter I had a change of heart and decided to pick up and move. I began the year 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona – which, to date, has been one of the most life changing opportunities I have yet to experience! Letting go of my past, learning from my mistakes, and trying to find out who I am destined to be in this world were all lessons that I was able to learn during this time. Taking risks truly allows you to discover yourself, which is a beautiful gift. Moving from a small country town in Texas to a big city like Phoenix was a drastic change for me, but I learned to adapt.. and adapt rather quickly is exactly what I did!
Taking advantage of every opportunity you are handed, especially when it involves risk, is key. Life is simply about creating memories and following your dreams. Think about it: at school, at work, and in your personal relationships you find yourself taking changes. In the back of your mind we all think of the possibility of failing… But WHAT IF you succeed?
You will never know without taking the risk. You must move forward to discover what the world has to offer. Spread your wings and feel the freedom that comes with the chances you take, that is what makes life so exciting. Who wants to live a life of ‘what-ifs’? Who wants to live a life full of regrets? Don’t be afraid to let go, don’t be afraid to get to know yourself a little better and don’t be afraid of being alone. After all, your biggest risk will be the one you didn’t take.
