We are still in the first month of the New Year and you’re feeling all excited and ready to take on 2015 in full-force… but soon enough you may find yourself losing your mojo. Once the excitement wears off it can be a harsh reality going to work each and every day, facing the same tasks, with the all too “over it” feeling!
Here are some hints and tips for staying motivated at work this year:
Push yourself out of the comfort zone
Take a serious think about your job – are you really being challenged enough? You want to be in an environment that pushes you to think and work hard. If not, then perhaps it’s time to find out how you can move up and achieve a promotion.
What would your idol do?
Create a list of people you look up to. This could include celebrities, well-known business people, friends or even your boss. For me, it’s those strong working women that encourage me to work hard – the likes of Sheryl Sandberg and Marissa Meyer. Read up on them in the news and keep an eye on what their doing to help keep you motivated.
Create an inspiring workspace
If it’s fresh flowers, the matching stapler and scissors or a pretty notepad that is what does it for you, then go hard decorating your deskspace! Make it an environment that motivates and excites you, so you look forward to going to work each day. You want an environment that makes you smile every morning. Don’t be afraid to add your flair and put your stamp on your space (without going too over the top).
Have a life outside your job
Having a good work-life balance is tip top important so you don’t feel completely constrained to your job. Try picking up a hobby, such as swimming or a social sport and make time to catch up with your friends. Going out for dinner can be a great way to break up the week and you’ll usually be able to find a good spot that has a weekly special on!
Subscribe to inspiring newsletters
Stay tuned into your favourite magazines and blogs and sign-up for their great newsletters. Having news that interests you coming straight into your inbox gives you a great chance to take a breather and read up about things that make you tick. In turn, this can make you feel a lot happier at work.
Keep headphones at work
Music can be a great motivator. Create a fun and upbeat playlist that will liven you up at work, which you can quietly listen to through your headphones. If I’m feeling stressed or a bit unmotivated, Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ usually wakes me up!
Get some fresh air
Try going for a quick walk around the block to get some fresh air during the day. You’ll find short breaks mean you return back to your desk feeling re-energised and can boost your productivity.
Keep up the exercise
Whether it’s going to the gym in your lunch-break or getting up early in the morning to go for a power walk or run, exercise helps keep us feeling energised and fresh. Once you’re into the swing of it, it can even help you get up in the morning. If you’re feeling unfit at the moment, just start slow and make sure you’re doing exercise that you enjoy so you look forward to it, rather than dread it!
