As a twenty-something it always seems like there are more important things to be doing than wasting time cleaning the apartment. Isn’t there Netflix to be watched? The grocery store is the only errand most of us can face doing on a weekly basis. But, like it or not, cleaning has to get done. Here are five tips to make Spring Cleaning easier and less of a chore.
1. Crank Up The Music!
Did you know that cleaning can actually burn calories? Add some great pump up jams to the mix and you can feel better about skipping the gym for the day. Music helps everything go faster and there’s nothing like re-discovering some classic 90s hits on Pandora to really get you excited.
2. Make Your Bed
If you take the time every morning to just put your bed back together before leaving the apartment, your room will instantly look cleaner. This just might be the motivation you need to tackle another area of your room – like organizing your closet.
3. Dust First, Then Vaccum
Why would I vacuum first and then kick up a bunch of dust afterwards? That would be a poor choice. Make sure to dust the surfaces in your room first and then vacuum everything up afterwards.
4. Put Your Clothes Away
The floor or that desk chair always looks like an easy place to throw your clothes, but resist the temptation. A habit like that can easily get out of control – take it from someone who knows. Either hang your clothes back up or throw them in your laundry basket. Keeping clothes in their designated place will make you feel more organized and will keep your floor clear for walking – no one wants to accidentally step on their favorite dress with dirty shoes.
5. Don’t Leave Dishes In Your Room
Our generation has perfected the art of eating meals in bed, or at least I know I have. Make sure to take all your dishes back to the sink or put them in the dishwasher. Food can easily pile up on your bedside table and moving it back to the kitchen clears up a lot of space and also keeps the ants at bay.
