I am the queen of being on the go.
From my full time gig in marketing, to my small time gig as a consultant, to my writing I am constantly throwing balls up in the air and catching them – and that’s only in the professional world. Add in family, friends, my pup Snuggles, and some me time and suddenly each day needs to double in length (at minimum) so that I can fit everything in.
I know it’s the trendy thing to say “I’m busy,” but I swear to God that sometimes I just want to fall over with exhaustion. I am burnt the fuck out in just about every area of my life.
It affects everything – performance at work, performance at home, ability to have some me time, ability to relax, ability to not lose my goddamned mind on the daily.
The frazzle is oh-so real.
If I’m being honest, sometimes I sit down behind this keyboard and stare at a blank page. If I’m being honest, sometimes I feel like I don’t have a single word to share with you. If I’m being honest, sometimes I want to throw this laptop into a drawer and not look at it for the next six months.
If I’m being honest, sometimes I just need a fucking break.
I am so programmed to be on the go all of the time that I forget that IT IS OKAY TO TAKE A BREAK every now and again – or as often as I need one.
I know I’m not the only one that needs to remember that.
So, here’s a reminder from me to you – take your breaks when you need them.
There is nothing wrong with pressing the pause button. There is nothing wrong with needing to soak up the world that is around you without bringing every single responsibility with you. There is nothing wrong with taking a break to just be you. We tend to get in the habit of living life at turbo speed, so much so that we do everything but experience nothing. Let’s make a more conscious effort to pump the brakes, disconnect, and dammit, just BREATHE!
And not feel even a little bit bad about it.
