I have always shied away from self-tanning because I never had the best luck with it. It left me streaky, orange, and just ended up becoming a complete mess. I remember how embarrassing it was leaving my house looking like a blotchy, oompa loompa. I felt like I needed to explain myself to everyone I came across. But with more research and practice I have successfully overcame the challenge. Being an esthetician, I grew to love oils and their benefits for the skin. When I first saw these St. Tropez products I had to test them out. Although, a little pricey, I didn’t mind because I was paying for quality and that is something I can always afford. Not only does it leave me with an even, all-over great application, it hydrates my skin as well. Always an extra bonus!
Face: Self Tan Luxe Facial Oil $35
This luxe facial oil is lightweight and non-greasy. What I love most about the product is that it leaves me looking natural with a sun-kissed glow. It is geared towards all skin types and does not cause any sensitivity issues – I would know because my skin is very reactive to products.
Body: Self Tan Luxe Dry Oil $50
Again, this product is lightweight and non-greasy. Also, it doesn’t leave you with that dreaded self-tan smell and doesn’t transfer onto clothing. Another tip with this product is to start off with a small amount and apply more if needed. Especially when you apply onto your hands and feet.
Applicator: Tan Applicator Mitt $6.50 or a clean sock
This is my favorite applicator mitt I have tried so far. Completely washable and protects your palms from staining. You can use this mitt with any self-tan product to ensure a streak-free finish. I also suggested applying the oil with a sock because it is another technique which leaves the same results! Try the Buffing Mitt by St. Tropez as well to take care of any blotchy areas by smoothing them out because unfortunately blotchiness is inevitable.
Before applying the oils to your skin make sure you exfoliate and moisturize. It makes a big difference sloughing those dead skin cells away and having your skin well prepared. After applying, you will see an immediate change to your skin’s color, but allow the oils to set in and develop for 4-8 hours. I recommend showering after the oil has set in to remove the excess. The color typically lasts about a week. Make sure to exfoliate and moisturize throughout for an even fade.
And if you’re in need of a good exfoliator and moisturizer my favorites are Ultimate Man Body Scrub Soap and coconut oil! Yes, I use a man exfoliant and I love it! I never knew I could find great products from my boyfriend. Its main components are oats and pumice. Coconut oil is great for moisturizing too. It does leave an oily residue, but the results are worth it.
Now with these products, tips, and tricks you should be the ultimate bronzed goddess.
