Now that I am traveling more frequently I have gotten into the habit of packing my own snacks. It’s cheaper and more healthy. Whether I am heading out on a road trip or plane ride, I am no longer tempted by whatever last resort food is available.
Here is a list of my top favorite snacks I pack before I go on a trip – try sticking these in your bag next time you head out the door for a trip!
Almonds, cashews, peanuts, or whatever kind you prefer. They are all good separate or mixed together, and a great snack to tide you over for long periods of time.
A banana is literally one of the cheapest snacks and it is easy to grab and throw in your bag when you are rushing out the door. It is healthy and it fills you up for a good chunk of time, which is why bananas are my number one go to travel snack. If you like dried fruit, apricots are much cheaper than most other dried fruits. Raisins and craisins are also great options and taste great mixed with nuts.
Pumpkin and sunflower seeds. You can buy a rather small package of each that will last you for days!
If you are like me and absolutely love to add something sweet to your snack pack, then dark chocolate chunks/chips are a must. It’s okay, dark chocolate is good for us!
Often times it’s even easier to throw all these items into one single bag. I enjoy mixing some nuts, raisins, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, and dark chocolate chunks together to make my very own trail mix.
Basically all veggies are easy to cut up and pack in small baggies. I love baby carrots, because they don’t require any work. If I don’t mind spending a few extra minutes while getting everything together, I will wash some snap peas to bring along too.
6. Granola Bars
Granola bars are always a great option if you don’t fancy the options noted above on their own or have the time to make your own trail mix. After trying a variety of different granola bars, I still find myself eyeing the Clif bars. I love how they are chewy and dense. I can make one bar last for an awfully long time. I did recently try Kind and really liked the Kind Healthy Grains bars. They are also chewy, but not as heavy as the Clif bars.
As always, remember to pack your water bottle. If you don’t have your own, make sure to pick up water on your way out of town or before you get on the plane. More often than not, if you are feeling hungry you are probably thirsty.
Enjoy your next adventure and remember your favorite snacks!
