The travel bug bit me at a very young age; I have always loved to vacation, travel, see, and experience different states, countries, and cultures throughout my life. When I was younger, I counted down the days until our annual vacation to the Outer Banks or to Disney World in Florida. When I was in a teenager, I screamed for joy when my parents decided to plan a trip to the Turks and Caicos Islands for my 18th birthday. When I was a sophomore in college, I had a countdown app on my iPhone detailing the days, hours, and minutes until I was able to spend a semester in Italy. When I graduated and was able to vacation with my family in Belize, I was ecstatic, but knew that my next city would be the one I would venture to in order to start my life. So, without further adieu, here are five places you need to see at least once in your life.
I know, I’m a bit biased because I spent a semester there when I was in college. However, Italy is absolutely amazing. From the Duomo in Florence, to the Coliseum in Rome and everything in between, the country made me come alive in ways I never knew before (and also made me experience the most incredible meals of my life).
I bet you didn’t think this one would be number two, did you? Switzerland was, hands down, my favorite city that I was able to visit while abroad. It is absolutely gorgeous, and sitting and admiring the beautiful mountains and glacial lakes changed my life forever.
Especially during Late September/Early October. Why? Oktoberfest! It’s a must-do at least once in your life. I’ll definitely be back to experience another one of the craziest weekends I’ve ever had.
It may be expensive, but I want to move to this city one day. From Parliament to the London Bridge to Big Ben, the city is absolutely stunning. And they even have a Chipotle!
5. New York City
I’m bookending this list with two of my favorite places in the world (and consequently, two places I’ve spent very integral parts of my life). This city has a way of making you feel so high. It may be insane, loud, and at some points, downright disgusting, but there is just no place like New York. Dreams come true here, and as the saying goes, “If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.”
Did I miss one of your favorite places? Let me know in the comments!
