Part of my New Year’s Resolution was to spend more quality time with my guy friends. I find that I often times meet so many new people in my life, that it’s hard to find time for my good friends outside of random settings. A buddy and I started pondering a few ways to get down to basics and came up with five solid, simple, and fun ideas to for guy’s night. The goal is to be easy, cheap(ish), and spontaneous.
The definitive five ideas for a great guy’s night are (in order of awesomeness) as follows:
1) Kidnap your buddy that’s in a relationship and get him smashed
We all have that one guy friend that is in a relationship and just isn’t the same guy you used to know. He is always ducking out of plans for the SO, refusing to do fun activities, or just generally being a big ol’ weiner. Get together with all your other buddies and stage a kidnapping–that’s right. Show up, unannounced, take him, feed him, booze him, have fun. Rinse and repeat.
2) Random road trip it
Why go to the same three bars and wake up in a sea of regret the next morning? Instead, find an awesome location and just go. Spontaneously plan a random ski trip, trip to a college town, or a nearby beach or lake just for the day. It’s amazing how a slight sense of adventure can lead to more fun than you ever thought possible. Keep your plans simple and this one is a guaranteed fun time.
3) Casino Night / Poker Tournament
Sometimes the easiest things are right at home. Have a casino night with all of your best bros. Cash or just for the glory—it doesn’t matter (ok, it definitely matters, but you just do you). Poker, blackjack, or go full Monty and rent a craps table, this night is surely to become a crowd favorite after one go.
4) Screw with people on Tinder
We all try to play matchmaker for our close friends. Why not take this act as old as time itself into the digital age at home? Set up a no-boundaries game of Tinder matchmaking. Switch phones with your friends. Go crazy on Tinder. Drink every time you get a match, two drinks for them messaging you first. Variations include trying to get a match to hang out with you. Score a date for your friend, they have to finish their drink.
5) Hold the ultimate N64 Tourney
Find someone that has an N64. Because, let’s be serious, N64 games are everything wonderful about your childhood, and you definitely know someone that has one. Get everyone together (with booze, lots of booze) and do tournament de nostalgia. Mario Party, Mario Cart, Super Smash Brothers. Have a tournament, make a bracket, and declare a champion. There can be only one.
