Ever find yourself wishing you could go back to that mountain or beach weekend you had in college? With the all the stresses of the real world, taking a long weekend to get away with friends can be just what you need. It is a great way to let loose and have fun, while leaving the real world behind for a few days. I think everyone needs the equivalent of a mountain weekend, like the one I just went on, every so often. No excuses.
If you are worried about the price, don’t be. Depending on the size of your group, you could get a house in the mountains for between $60-$80 a person. With another $20 per person for food and everyone bringing their own alcohol, you could realistically spend less than $200 for three nights in the mountains at a house with a hot tub. That’s hard to beat.
The people are the most important reason to go. Whether you are able to go with college friends, or friends you have met since you graduated, a long weekend away can be a great way to strengthen those relationships. I was lucky enough to spend our mountain weekend with a great group of new friends. I can’t thank them enough for how welcoming they have been to me in letting me be a part of the group. They made it a great birthday weekend and I just can’t say enough about how much they have meant to me these past 8 months.
But don’t just go for the people, go for YOU. We all work constantly and are stressed about work, life and if we’re doing it right. None of that should matter during this weekend. Whether at the mountains, at the beach, at the lake, or wherever you want to “retreat”, this weekend is a time to relax, not worry and let loose. Worry about everything when you get back. Work and life will all be there when you get back. But, for one weekend, you can shove everything to the side and release. It doesn’t have to be a crazy, party weekend – you should do whatever will bring you the greatest escape.
