City Spotlight: New York
Back on the east coast, New York City may just be one of the biggest and most popular cities in the entire world. The Big Apple.
Get the Vibe
The Big Apple. The city that never sleeps. Regardless of what you call it, New York is known for being one of the most amazing cities in the entire world, and it most definitely is. Packed with amazing restaurants and bars, television studios and celebrities, awesome nightlife, and wonderful, diverse people, New York is a hotspot for anyone who loves being around other people, rich history, and, honestly, who’s got some flair! New York’s a city of high fashion, and you’ll definitely notice it (I personally love it!). Think Sex in the City Carrie Bradshaw- now doesn’t that make you want to come?
Grab A Bite to Eat
There are SO many great restaurants in New York City, but I would definitely recommend checking out one of the Italian restaurants. Since the city, and New York in general, has such a large Italian presence, the Italian food and pizza are some of the best outside of Italy. For dessert, check out the oldest bakery in New York, Venero’s (yes another Italian restaurant!) located on 11th street between 1st and 2nd avenue on the Lower East Side. It is open until one in the morning and has some of the best cannolis you will ever have!
Take a Stroll or Experience the Nightlife
Definitely take a stroll on the High Line if this is your first time to New York. Recently opened, this long walking path above and through the city will offer you amazing views and a great spot to sit and relax in a city that almost never does. For nightlife, you can go almost anywhere. New York is the city that never sleeps and we are most definitely not kidding when we say that.
Visit a Hidden Gem Outside of the City
Since New York City is located on an island, it is completely surrounded by other amazing destinations that are seemingly in just an arms reach. As a Long Islander myself, I would have to tell you to come visit Long Island. Only about a forty minute train ride will take you to some of the most amazing beaches in the North East. Since there are so many (Jones Beach, Long Beach, Gilgo Beach, Tobay Beach, etc. need I say more?), definitely come with a plan so you know exactly where to go and how to get there! My personal favorite beach is Long Beach, since it has a long boardwalk stretching across it where there are always people walking, biking, and running. If the beach life isn’t for you, definitely check out the nightlife at Long Island’s Nautical Mile in Freeport, where you can find hoppin’ bars, awesome restaurants, and cool outdoor clubs.
How About a New Apartment?
While living on the island of Manhattan tends to be a bit pricey, you can narrow down your apartment search to specific areas of the city, such as the Lower East Side (by the old alphabet city), which is becoming increasingly popular among millennials. Areas outside the city, like Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Astoria, Queens are also becoming hot spots for the Twenty Something crowd.
