Lately I’ve found myself really struggling to put my faith in fate. You know, that thing that’s supposedly responsible for all of life’s downfalls and happy endings? The reason for your heartbreak and suffering, but also the reason for love and happiness? Yea, that.
I’ve come to find that we’re so quick to put our hope in the hands of an untouchable ideal like fate or destiny, because its easier to blame the intangible for the outcome of events than it is to turn the blame on yourself.
It’s as though we’ve been conditioned to understand life’s ups & downs as choices of a higher power managing your surroundings like pieces on a chess board. It’s a helpless feeling, but its also a freeing one and that makes it extremely alluring. After all, if you can’t change the outcome why even bother caring at all? I lose that freedom when I find myself letting fate’s strong arms catch me. Relinquishing my control feels as though I’m giving up.
What I’m really trying to understand is why we’re so quick to give away our control. Are we jaded by the hope that fate has crushed? That boyfriend you forgave and took back who only turned around and smashed your heart into pieces all over again? Or maybe that loved one you tragically and suddenly lost? These instances steal our fragile control and paint the picture that we actually have none.
While its easier to let fate have its wicked way with you, isn’t it more fulfilling to do everything you can to achieve the outcome you’re looking for? We can’t just float through life hoping that one day our faith in fate will get us to where we need to be. We have to do everything we can to grasp the short time we were given on this earth and make it the most worthwhile. Leaving it all up to fate is a trap disguised as a safety blanket, it won’t get you where you need to be or to the person you want to be.
You’re given your life to live it your way, not to just go through the motions and hope it all turns out okay. The idea that fate is the only one in control of an individual’s destiny is bullshit. “What will be, will be” is a line for those who don’t have the courage to grab life by the balls. Control your life so you rule your own fate. Do your damnedest to ensure that life goes the way it should. Live each day knowing that you control the outcomes of the next day.
This all being said, life is not without its surprises. It’s unrealistic to think that you are 100% in control of everything. So do your best every single day to achieve the outcome you are looking for so when life does surprise you, you have no regrets. You know that you did everything in your power to get where you are in life. Don’t let fate take control. How’s that saying go? You control your destiny. You. Own your own life and it will all work out in the end.
