Lets face it: it’s cold. Really cold. And “adult snow days” in big cities virtually never happen due to public transportation and close proximity to work. So, every morning, YoPros drag themselves out of bed, dreading the moment their faces hit the cold winter air in order to begin their commute to work. In the warmer seasons, there are things such as happy hours, nights out with friends, and beautiful weather to power us through the workdays and give us the social life that we crave. However, during the winter, the cold is crippling, and I find myself more than ever looking forward to two things: Netflix, and my bed. It’s so easy to get stuck in the monotonous day-to-day routine, especially in the winter, so I’ve been experimenting with new activities and routines in order to not only keep my social life on track, but to beat the cold.
One thing I’ve been doing a lot more is calling and FaceTiming friends that don’t live in my city on cold winter nights. That way, I can keep up with their lives, lie in my bed, and feel social and like I’m re-connecting with friends that I haven’t seen in a while. Whenever I hang up the phone, I feel so refreshed, happy, and social! It’s a great way to laugh, have fun, and it makes both parties feel great.
Something else I’ve been experimenting with when I need a night out with friends is exploring bars around my apartment. Often in the summer, I venture to new parts of the city because it’s warm and I love to walk around. However, exploring bars and restaurants right around my apartment makes it so that I don’t have to go far in order to have a great time.
Netflix and movie nights with friends are also always great ideas when it’s cold. If you decide to host, have friends bring over wine, snacks, and blankets in order to make everyone comfortable and warm. You’re getting to spend time with friends, as well as getting to binge on TV shows. It’s a great alternative to bearing the cold in order to see friends at a bar or club – save that for the spring!
Although it’s almost March, the winter is far from over. While I am definitely looking forward to warmer weather, I feel like I’ve connected with so many friends this winter and am so happy that I was able to beat the cold. I hope you utilize these ideas in order to have a great night in!
